Schoolchildren will have 15 consecutive days off during the winter holidays instead of the scheduled 14 calendar days, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education (MPSE) said in a statement.
According to the law, winter holidays in schools in Uzbekistan shall usually commence on December 28 and last 14 calendar days. However, this year the holidays will begin on December 29 (instead of December 28) and last until January 11 inclusive (instead of January 10).
Classes scheduled for Saturday, January 11 will be rescheduled for Saturday, December 28. While, January 12 (Sunday) will be a day off. Therefore, the third school quarter will begin on January 13 (Monday).
MPSE added that the move was aimed at the convenience of students, parents and teachers, as well as to ensure the continuity of the educational process.
Winter holidays for students of state universities and students of academic lyceums and vocational education institutions will begin on December 25 and last through January 7.
