In order to meet the growing demand for electricity in Uzbekistan and to sustainably provide electricity to the population, social sectors and economic sectors over the past 5 years, a total of 12 thermal power plant project deals have been signed with foreign companies on the principles of public-private partnership, the Minister of Energy said.
12 modern thermal power plants with a total capacity of 7,057 MW will be commissioned in Uzbekistan by the end of 2027 based on these deals.
These investment projects are being implemented by companies with international experience from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Qatar and Turkey at the expense of foreign direct investment funds totaling 4. 9 billion US dollars.
6 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 1,374 MW were commissioned in Bukhara, Tashkent, Khorezm and Syrdarya provinces in 2022, and, one 1,500 MW thermal power plant in Shirin city and one in Boyavut district of Syrdarya province, totaling 2,874 MW of new capacity were completed in 2023-2024.
Based on agreements signed with foreign companies, it is planned to commission another 5 new thermal power plants with a total capacity of 4,183 MW by 2027.
In particular:
- In 2024, 400 MW TPP, Nishan district of Kashkadarya province;
- In 2024, 100 MW TPP, in 4th thermal power plant in Tashkent city;
- In 2025-2026, 1,573 MW TPP, Boyovut district of Syrdarya province;
- In 2027, 1,560 MW TPP, Angor district of Surkhandarya province
- In 2027, 550 MW TPP, Sharof Rashidov district of Jizzakh province.
