Becoming a full member of the World Trade Organization in the near future is one of the priorities on the path to liberalizing the Uzbek economy. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated this in his address at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 19.

He noted that despite global challenges, Uzbekistan’s economy is “showing stable growth rates” thanks to “consistent reforms.”

“Over the past six years, the Uzbek gross domestic product has increased by more than 1.5 times. Our main goal is to double this figure by 2030,” the president said.

“Thanks to policies aimed at improving the standard of living of the population, the poverty level in the country has halved since 2017. By 2030 we plan to reduce it to 7%,” he said.

“We have decided to increase the supply of drinking water to the population by several times, as well as the coverage of healthcare, education and other social services,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

He supported the initiative of the UN Secretary General “Global Accelerator for Job Creation and Social Protection”. Within its framework, Uzbekistan proposes “for the sake of exchange of experience” to hold the World Conference “Social Protection: The Path to Sustainable Development” in the country in 2024 under the auspices of the UN.
