Video surfaced on social media showing a woman setting herself on fire in the street in front of other people. People around start screaming. Then the woman was shown lying in someone's arms, her face is not visible. After some time, an ambulance arrives, and the woman was being given medical assistance.
The Tashkent police department reported that the incident occurred on May 2 at about 10:00 in front of one of the shops in the Karakamysh area of Almazar district.
D.K., 42, had a conflict with other vendors on the street for a place to trade. In protest, she doused herself with the gasoline she was carrying and set herself on fire.
The woman was hospitalized with burns to her face, palms and 35% of the front of her body.
The preliminary investigation established that the victim had previously come into conflict over a place for trading and repeatedly tried to commit self-arson, but the police officers stopped her.
The Almazar district prosecutor's office is conducting a pre-investigation probe on the fact of the incident.
