As part of the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, the Embassy of India in Uzbekistan, in partnership with the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan (YFU), organized a conference titled “Yoga for Mental Health and Yoga as the Art of Healthy and Long Living: Yoga and Women” in Tashkent.
The conference brought together representatives of government institutions, international organizations, the diplomatic corps, health and wellness experts, yoga practitioners, entrepreneurs, media representatives, and members of the public to discuss the growing relevance of yoga in addressing contemporary health and lifestyle challenges.
In her opening remarks, H.E. Ms. Smita Pant, Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan, highlighted yoga’s universal appeal as a holistic practice that promotes harmony between mind and body. She emphasized that yoga continues to serve as a bridge between cultures and peoples, strengthening the longstanding friendship between India and Uzbekistan.

The event featured interventions from distinguished speakers, including entrepreneur Ms. Nigora Artykkhodjaeva and Dr. Asheena Khalakdina, WHO Representative and Head of the WHO Country Office in Uzbekistan, who underscored the importance of preventive healthcare, mental well-being and healthy lifestyles in today’s fast-paced world.

A key highlight of the conference was the launch of the Uzbek translation of “Yoga for All”, authored by the renowned spiritual guide Shri M. The book was translated by the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan and published in cooperation with the Embassy of India in Uzbekistan. The publication is expected to contribute to wider awareness and understanding of yoga philosophy and practice among Uzbek readers.
The conference also included thematic discussions on the role of yoga in supporting mental health, promoting healthy and fulfilling lives, and empowering women. Experts and practitioners shared their experiences and perspectives on how yoga can contribute to emotional resilience, physical well-being and social harmony.

Participants also enjoyed a guided yoga and meditation session, demonstrating practical techniques for stress management, mindfulness and inner balance.
The event concluded with an appreciation ceremony for speakers and contributors. The conference reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Uzbekistan to promoting wellness, people-to-people ties and the timeless values embodied in yoga.
