A square in downtown Moscow, situated in the vicinity of the Uzbekistan’s consulate and guest house in Yakimanka area will be named after the First President of Uzbekistan.

The square is situated between the house 39, building No 1 on Big Polianka and the house 13 on Cossack Lane 1, the website of the Mayor of Moscow office said.

Prominent scientists, politicians and artists of Russia and Uzbekistan requested the Mayor of Moscow office to rename an unnamed square next to the consulate after Islam Karimov. The draft resolution on naming a small square after the First President of Uzbekistan will be discussed at the government of Moscow meeting on November 1.

Earlier the city’s interagency commission responsible for naming the territorial units chaired by the Deputy Mayor Leonid Pechatnikova supported the proposal to create a memorial park in honor of Islam Karimov.
