The term of office of the President of Uzbekistan from 5 to 7 years could be extended. This is provided for by the draft bill amending the Constitution.

The draft was published in the July 25 issue of the Xalq So’zi newspaper. It is expected that the draft will be posted in electronic form on the www.meningkonstitutsiyam.uz portal.

Earlier, in an interview with Kun.uz, ​​Sadyk Safayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate, said that the amendments to the Constitution will create a “new legal space” that will allow every citizen, in particular the incumbent president, to run for president.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that the amendments to the Constitution would be adopted by referendum.

The term of office of the President of Uzbekistan in 2011 was reduced from 7 to 5 years.
