On May 21, at about 15:30, an accident occurred at the border checkpoint between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, which killed 9 people, Shokhrukh Giyasov, the spokesman to the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

According to him, a trailer loaded with a bulldozer, which was traveling from Kadamzhai district of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan to the Sokh district of the Ferghana region of Uzbekistan, “had a brake failure”, due to which “the driver lost control and drove into 12 cars (2 from Uzbekistan , 10 — from Kyrgyzstan) who were queuing at the border checkpoint.

“Two victims received outpatient care, with 5 hospitalized. The condition of the victims is assessed as moderate,” the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan said.

Reportedly the truck was traveling at a speed of 70-80 kilometers per hour.
