On April 27 in commemoration of World Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Day, Deputy Chief of Mission Paul Poletes and representatives from the legal and business community representing Uzbekistani firms met in a roundtable to discuss joint concerns about IPR progress and challenges.

The group reviewed ongoing issues around enforcement, such as how local laws support or hinder justice for IPR violations related to counterfeit goods, software piracy, and illegal retransmission of digital or television content.

As Uzbekistan’s economy grows and develops, IPR rights will allow businesses to create new products and services and reap the benefits of their hard work.  Defending those rights will encourage more investment growth in Uzbekistan, jobs, and opportunities.  Ultimately, securing IPR would also support Uzbekistan’s ambitions to eventually join the World Trade Organization.
