On January 17, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the visiting Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the presidential press service said.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov handed Shavkat Mirziyoyev a written message from the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which contains "a high assessment of the Turkmen-Uzbek relations, which are dynamically developing in all area."

The Turkmen leader stressed the closeness and similarity of the positions of the two countries on issues of international politics and regional relations.

The parties discussed the ways to deepen cooperation and practical steps to increase the volume of the two-way trade, the implementation of new joint cooperation projects in industry, energy, water and agriculture, as well as the effective use of the transit potential of the two states.

On Monday, Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Deputy PM/Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov, with whom he discussed the development of industrial cooperation. The parties highlighted that over the past four years, trade between the two countries has increased 5 times, and in 2021 it increased by 65%, amounting to about $880 million.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov, 40, is the only son of the president of Turkmenistan. In February 2021, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appointed him Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Control Chamber and member of the State Security Council. In July, he became Deputy Prime Minister for Finance and Economics. The President of Turkmenistan is concurrently the Prime Minister.
