Within the framework of the Third Eurasian Women's Forum taking place on 13-15 October 2021 in St. Petersburg the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Chairperson of the Central Asia Women Leaders Caucus Tanzila Narbaeva is participating in the thematic session "The Role of Women-Led Business in Economic Development".
On the margins of the forum, Tanzila Narbaeva met with the UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Alia El-Yassir.
During the meeting the sides discussed cooperation with Uzbekistan on gender issues, including within the framework of the Central Asia Women Leaders Caucus.
Tanzila Narbaeva briefed about Uzbekistan's achievements in ensuring gender equality and stressed that the cooperation with UN Women has become systematic since establishment of the Caucus last year.
In turn, Alia El-Yassir highly praised the work carried out under the Uzbek chairpersonship in the Caucus to promote regional cooperation between women in the region in the sphere of preventive diplomacy and women's entrepreneurship.
The UN Women regional director underlined that she welcomed the efforts to promote gender equality in Uzbekistan and expressed hope for maintaining the dynamics of further empowering women in the country. Uzbekistan, she said, is a champion of gender equality and a model country in Central Asia in this direction.
She confirmed her participation in the concluding session of the Caucus this December and also announced that the new UN Women executive director, Sima Sami Bahous, plans to visit Uzbekistan next year.
