Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan intend to continue to provide assistance to the people of Afghanistan. The Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced this during a media briefing today.

According to the President of Uzbekistan, "the security and sustainability of the development of the region largely depends on the development of the situation in Afghanistan."

“Our countries are ready to provide all-round assistance to the people of Afghanistan in the future in order to ensure long-term peace and socio-economic development of this country,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The head of state noted the plans to continue talks on the implementation of transnational projects related to Afghanistan.

“Our large transnational projects, which we have planned [to implement with Afghanistan], we have agreed that no matter how difficult it will be, we will negotiate so as not to stop, but on the contrary, will step them up. Because these projects in the future will give a big leap for the economy of Afghanistan themselves,” he stressed.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also noted that the dialogue on Afghanistan will also continue within the framework of international structures.

The President of Turkmenistan noted the similarity of the approaches of the two countries "on the fundamental issues of the Afghan issue."

"The interaction of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan over Afghanistan can only bring great benefits in normalizing the political situation in this country, restoring the economy, social sphere, connecting to the regional and world economic relations," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

The President of Turkmenistan is on an official visit to Uzbekistan between October 4-5.
