Yesterday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the United States, Afghanistan and Pakistan decided to create a new quadripartite consultation platform to support the Afghan peace process and post-conflict settlement, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

“Officials from Uzbekistan, the United States, Afghanistan and Pakistan have generally agreed to establish a new quadripartite diplomatic platform aimed at enhancing regional connectivity,” reads the statement.

“The parties believe that long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan is critical to regional connectivity and share the view that peace and regional ties are mutually reinforcing,” the statement emphasized.

The countries hope to work together to expand trade, create transit routes and strengthen business ties.

In the coming months, the parties agreed to meet to determine the terms of cooperation "by mutual consensus."
