The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is expected to visit Uzbekistan, announced the Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Huseyn Guliyev on 2 July during talks with the Uzbek Deputy PM Sardor Umrzakov.

The parties also discussed the current agenda and the ways to advance the bilateral ties, as well as the progress of previously reached agreements, and agreed to expedite attracting Azerbaijani companies to establish industrial cooperation with Uzbek manufacturers in the textile, leather, footwear, jewelry and electrical engineering industries.

The ways to increase the two-way trade were also discussed, while it was underscored that the two economies have the potential to increase the annual trade to US$ 500 million in the near future.

The parties also noted the prospects for deepening cooperation in the field of transport and logistics and discussed a number of issues on increasing mutual traffic and increasing the transit potential of the two countries.

In particular, a number of bilateral events were discussed, including a high-level visit to Uzbekistan and preparations for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

At the end of the talks, the parties reiterated their commitment for active cooperation in the implementation and promotion of previously reached agreements, as well as the expansion of bilateral partnerships.
