Electric buses will be purchased for Tashkent city with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF)as part of the low-emission vehicles program, the Ministry of Transport said.

On June 30, a meeting of the project appraisal committee was held in Tashkent which was attended by officials from relevant ministries and departments.

The six-year project provides for the purchase of electric buses for Tashkent public transport and launching a "green transport corridor" in the city as a pilot project, for which UNDP and GEF donated US$ 3.9 million.

The project will be implemented by UNDP in Uzbekistan jointly with the Ministry of Transport, the Tashkent mayor’s office, the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, Toshshahartranskhizmat (entity responsible for Tashkent public transport), as well as other involved ministries and departments.

In October, the Ministry of Transport submitted for discussion a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, which provided for the purchase of 300 electric buses worth 1 trillion soums over three years.
