Experts from the WHO Regional Office for Europe arrived in Uzbekistan to build capacity and examine the national public health laboratories conducting COVID-19 testing, the WHO’s country office said.

From July 5 to 9, experts will conduct a training on laboratory biosecurity and biosafety for laboratories staff of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare Service.

“Well-functioning, sustainable laboratory services, operating in accordance with international quality and safety principles, are essential to strengthen health systems and improve public health,” the Office said.

The training is being conducted in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe as part of the Better Labs for Better Health initiative launched in 2012.
