Mirjana Egger, the Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, paid a two-day visit to Uzbekistan, the UNDP press service said.
On June 15, Mirjana Egger attended the international business forum on the economic empowerment of women in Uzbekistan and throughout Central Asia. In her remarks, she highlighted UNDP's goals of integrating gender issues in the business sector in Uzbekistan and lifting legal and regulatory barriers that prevent women from participating in the economy.
“I highly value Uzbekistan's quick and comprehensive response to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, striving to focus not only on recovery, but also on how these efforts relate to the medium and long-term needs of sustainable development,” she said.
“This is a very important moment, as Uzbekistan is shaping its next development strategy for 2022-2026 and determining future areas of growth,” Egger said.
On June 16, the UNDP Regional Director handed over the equipment to the Ishga Markhamat employment center. to enhance the center’s technical potential.
During the visit, Mirjana Egger reaffirmed UNDP's commitment to some of the most important areas for Uzbekistan's development. These include strengthening parliamentary oversight of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stimulating the implementation of the poverty reduction strategy, promoting green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and supporting the National Gender Strategy.
