Uzbekistan handed over humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, consisting of 1000 oxygen cylinders. The cargo hand-over ceremony took place on June 11 in Hairaton (Afghanistan), the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
Emergency humanitarian aid was sent at the request of the government of Afghanistan, which is facing the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
In his remarks at the ceremony, the special representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, said that despite the pandemic there have been no interruptions in the food and medicine deliveries to Afghanistan across the Uzbek-Afghan border.
Uzbekistan is ready to continue to provide all-round support to the neighboring country, he noted.
The governor of Balkh province Farhad Azimi stressed that the assistance provided by Uzbekistan is an example of a truly fraternal attitude towards the people of Afghanistan.
