On June 5, the Deputy PM/Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, the MIFT press service reported.
The parties discussed the drafting of bilateral documents and intergovernmental agreements, which are planned to be signed during the upcoming visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan (between June 10-12 according to Asia-Plus).
In addition, the organization of mutual trips of representatives of culture, art, science, as well as young people of the two countries to the provinces of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan has been agreed.
The parties considered the prospects of resuming bus service between major cities of the two states, such as Tashkent, Samarkand, Termez, Dushanbe, Khujand, Penjikent and others, and agreed to work together to promote the Silk Road tourism brand and implement projects to develop pilgrimage tourism.
Bus service between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, after a 26-year pause, resumed on May 15, 2018. But since March 16, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Uzbekistan has limited road communications with other countries, and since September 1, it began to gradually lift restrictions.
