The Council of the Senate at a meeting on May 25 approved a proposal on a phased contribution of funds from the national budget to compensate for damage to businesses of Syrdarya province caused by the breakthrough of Sardoba reservoir.

A government commission in April calculated the amount of funds required to compensate for the damage caused to businesses specializing in fishing, livestock and poultry farming, as well as for the construction and repair of irrigation and drainage networks. The amount was set at 126 billion soums US$ 11 million.

The report also notes that the residents of Sardoba, Akaltyn and Mirzaabad districts who suffered from the man-made disaster were provided with the necessary assistance.

“Members of the Senate also visited the scene to study the situation on the basis of letters from business entities and citizens. The Senate has taken this issue under constant control, ”the message says.

The burst of the dam of the Sardoba reservoir occurred on May 1, 2020. At the end of July, the General Prosecutor's Office named the reasons for the man-made disaster - errors in design documentation, during construction and operation.
