The Deputy PM/Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov hosted the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavkizod Zavki Amin.
The parties emphasized the steady growth of the two-way trade: over the past 4 years, this figure has more than quadrupled and noted the huge untapped potential due to the geographical proximity and low transport costs.
In this regard, an agreement was reached on cooperation to elevate the volume of trade to US$ 1 billion in the coming years, with a view to helping Uzbek and Tajik producers by eliminating existing technical barriers, simplifying trade procedures and ensuring favorable product access to the markets of the two countries.
The parties also agreed to cooperate in the field of macroeconomic forecasting, development of the digital economy and e-commerce and indicated that experts from relevant ministries and departments of the two countries will immediately begin to develop a "Road Map" to expand trade and develop industrial cooperation.
Also during the dialogue, issues of preparation for the 8th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Tajikistan were discussed in Tashkent.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue and step up efforts on the preparation of the substantive part of the upcoming visit of the Uzbek President to Tajikistan in June this year.
