The Hungarian OTP Bank will buy stake in one of the Uzbek banks, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said on March 30 during the signing ceremony after the Uzbek-Hungarian talks.
The head of state indicated that the parties "seriously agreed" on this issue. According to him, at a meeting in a narrow circle on Tuesday with the heads of the banks, plans and prospects were discussed. Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that real results are expected after a while.
The plans of the Hungarian OTP Bank to enter the Uzbek market became known in July 2020, when a Hungarian delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó visited Tashkent. In February this year, it was reported that OTP Bank plans to buys stake in one of the Uzbek banks.
