Today, on December 2, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani the press service of the Uzbek leader said.
The counterparts considered current state and prospects of bilateral relations, topical issues of the regional agenda.
Ashraf Ghani, on behalf of the people of Afghanistan, reportedly expressed gratitude to the leader of Uzbekistan for his comprehensive support of the inter-Afghan peace process and practical assistance in the socio-economic development of the country, including during the fight against coronavirus.
The two leaders commended the upward trend in the Uzbek-Afghan mutually beneficial cooperation. Despite the pandemic, the volume of the two-way trade has grown significantly, and business exchanges have intensified. The Termez international trade center was set up for the businesses of the two countries.
The issues of improving the legal framework, expanding the network of trading houses and forming a package of new cooperation projects to achieve a twofold growth in trade are being worked out.
The Presidents praised the main outcomes of the Geneva Conference on Afghanistan held last week.
The parties also underscored the importance of further strengthening regional interconnectivity, promoting priority projects aimed at integrating Afghanistan into international trade and economic relations.
An agreement was reached on sending a joint request to the leading countries and international financial institutions in order to support the implementation of the Trans-Afghan railway corridor project. The ways to accelerating the Surkhan - Puli Khumri transmission line project were agreed.
At the end of the telephone conversation, the heads of state reiterated their mutual commitment to strengthening the friendship, good-neighborliness and full-scale partnership ties between the two countries.
