An extraordinary eighth session of the Jokargy Kenes (Supreme Council) of Karakalpakstan was held in Nukus on October 2, in which was present the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the presidential press service said.
By the decision of the Council of Elders, Murat Kamalov was nominated for the position of chairman of Jokargy Kenes. Shavkat Mirziyoyev supported his candidacy.
“I have known Murat Kamalov for many years,” the president said. - First of all, he is an honest person, a patriot. I saw that wherever he worked, he was always worried about the concerns of the Karakalpak people, which is the most important. I am confident that he will continue his father Kallibek Kamalov’s work, the late Musa Erniyazov, and will help improve people's lives. "
Deputies by secret ballot elected Murat Kamalov to the post of chairman of Jokargy Kenes.
In accordance with Article 80 of the Constitution of Karakalpakstan, the chairman of the Jokargy Kenes is the leader and the highest official of Karakalpakstan. The chairman of Jokargy Kenes is elected by the same body in agreement with the President of Uzbekistan from among the deputies of Zhokargy Kenes by secret ballot for the term of office of this representative body.
Murat Kamalov, 65, was born in Nukus. He graduated from the Higher School of the KGB of the Uzbek SSR in 1977. In the same year he began his labor activity as a KGB specialist. In 1987-1990, he worked as a junior researcher at the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, in 1990-1991, as a chief engineer in the organization for servicing diplomatic missions "Consul" (presumably a Department for servicing diplomatic and other equivalent foreign missions in Tashkent, in 1992 it was transformed into a Diplomatic Service under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan).
In 1991-1996, he served as director of the representative office of the association for business cooperation with foreign countries "Karakalpakintorg" under the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan in Tashkent. In 1996-2010, he headed the Stellor unitary enterprise in Tashkent. In 2010–2018, he worked as a consultant at the law firm “Khukyky Business Consulting Agency”, in 2018–2020 - as the head of the State Security Service Department for Karakalpakstan.
Before the elections of deputies to Jokargy Kenes in September, from August 7, 2020, he headed the Aral Sea International Innovation Center under the President.
Murat Kamalov is the son of Kallibek Kamalov, the first secretary of the Karakalpak regional committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan (1963-1984).
