The speed limit on some sections of the M39 international highway in the Surkhandarya province may be raised to 130 km/h, the Surkhandarya TV channel said in a story.

In early July, measures to ensure road safety, improve infrastructure and reduce congestion were discussed at a conference call government meeting chaired by the President. working groups have been formed at the national and provincial levels in pursuance of the directives of the head of state.

Members of the working group inspected the Termez-Baysun section of the M39 highway and assessed the possibility of increasing the speed limit to 130 km/h. Based on the findings of the study, they proposed to establish the following speed limits:

  • on 1315-1324 km section (Okrabot village) - 90 km/h;
  • on 1324-1326 km (Shifobulok neigborhood) - 70 km/h;
  • at 1337-1349 km — 100 km/h;
  • at 1374-1400 km (Sherabad district) — 130 km/h.

To ensure safe traffic on the M39 highway in the 1321-1391 km section, it is planned to install concrete barriers with a total length of 7 km at dangerous turns, replace 475 damaged road signs, install 1800 new signs at 20 dangerous sections, update road markings between 1315 and 1400 km, and repair the road surface and unevenness on six bridges.

After all the identified deficiencies have been rectified, the highway will be re-examined, and if it meets the standards, the recommended speed limit will be officially adopted.
