Vokhid Rakhimov has been appointed as mayor of Samarkand city. Rakhimov earlier held the position of mayor of Pastdargom district of Samarkand province, a statement of Samarkand province governor's office said.
At the February 3 extraordinary session of the Samarkand city Council of People's Deputies, the Samarkand province governor Himmat Okbutaev emphasized the need to raise the city's economic development pace .
According to him, there are many problems in the services sector, in particular in the housing and utilities sector, the unemployment rate is high and the activities of self-government bodies require attention, the governor added.
The previous mayor of Samarkand, Akbar Shukurov moved to another position.
