Today, the Information and Mass Communications Agency hosted a press conference to discuss the implemented measures and future tasks for ensuring road safety. At the event, the Deputy Interior Minister, Azizbek Ikramov said that starting from January 1, 2020, the traffic police officer will use body cameras to perform their duties.
“We conducted test before we can provide officers with body cameras. 50 Hytera brand body cameras company were tested in Tashkent by 32 traffic police officer and 18 patrol officers in September and October this year. In total were purchased 6,193 Hytera body cameras. The software has been installed on these devices, provided with SIM cards and communication through secure VPN channels. Mobile network (2G / 3G) is used for organization of the network. 2,876 body cameras were provided for Tashkent city department alone.
The cameras are not controlled by officers and cannot be turned off. Everything is by the central server. Once powered up, it runs 8 hours non-stop. When the battery runs out, it can operate continuously with the connected auto charger. Body cameras can capture an object at a distance of 25 to 30 meters and the data will be stored for up to one month, Ikramov said.
According to him, only 20% of road traffic offenses can be detected by humans. And body cameras can detect them to 100 percent. Thus, there will be conditions for complete detection and elimination of violations.
