President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today familiarized himself with the modernization progress of the Tupolon hydroelectric plant in Saryasi district of Surkhandarya province, the presidential press service said.
Previously, two units with 15 MW capacity each operated here. On the President’s instructions, the dam’s height was increased by 20 meters, with its capacity increased from 380 million to 500 million cubic meters. Works are ongoing to install two more units with a total capacity of 145 MW.
In addition, two 38 MW each small hydropower stations Zarchob-1 and Zarchob-2 are being built. Thus, the total power generation capacity will be increased to 250 MW.
According to the President, thanks to hydropower, Surkhandarya province will be able to fully satisfy the demand for electricity.
Technical systems were presented to the head of state to monitor the status of reservoirs and ensure their safety.
The President gave instructions to strengthen the dams and to continuously monitor their safety, as well as to increase the efficiency of operation of reservoirs based on scientific developments.
