The former director of Bek Tupi shopping center in the capital, Shukrillaxon Ergashev died on March 30 in remand prison No. 1 of the Main Corrections Department of the Interior Ministry (formerly Toshturma), the General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan said.

In August 2018, the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against 21 officials of the Department of commerce, services and consumer goods production in Tashkent and the heads of the Bek Tupi, Urikzor, the Chorsu, Chilanzar and the Eski Juva markets, Yunusabad and Sergeli car market and others for financial crimes.

The detainees are facing charges for inflicting losses to the state, embezzlement, distortion, improper sollicitation and other offenses.

One of the arrested Shukrillakhon Ergashev, 57, was being treated since 6 February in the treatment ward of the prison with a diagnosis of coronary heart disease, exertional angina, stage 2 hypertension, diabetes.

On Saturday, he died due to acute myocardial infarction and acute cardiopulmonary insufficiency, the General Prosecutor’s Office said.

A forensic examination was appointed to identify the reasons of the death. Tashkent Prosecutor’s Office checks the prison fo compliance with the detention rules.

On November 12, 2018, Dilshod Abdullayev, the former head of the construction department of Chilonzor Buyum Savdo Kompleksi market, hanged himself in the medical department of the remand prison No. 1. He was also a defendant in the same criminal case.
