President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree to pardon a group of people serving prison sentences, who sincerely repented for what they did, Uzbekistan 24 reported.
The President reportedly pardoned a total of 261 convicts, of whom 215 are released from prisons and 46 convicts’ sentences have been cut. Five pardoned persons are over 60 years of age.
135 of them were engaged in the activities of banned organizations.
The relevant ministries and departments are entrusted to assist the ex-convicts in social adaptation, in employment.
