Today, Tashkent hosted the regular meeting of the Working Group on Security between the Central Asian states and USA in the C5 + 1 format, which was attended by the officials of all the countries of Central Asia and the United States of America, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported.
The parties reportedly exchanged views on regional and international security issues, including strengthening cooperation in countering extremism, terrorism, and ensuring border security, and discussed the state of affairs and prospects for cooperation to resolve the situation in Afghanistan.
They noted that stable and sustainable development in Central Asia is inseparably linked with the achievement of peace and stability in neighboring Afghanistan.
The C5 + 1, which was launched during the first meeting of the foreign ministers of the Central Asia states and the USA in Samarkand in November 2015, is a format for dialogue and a platform for joint efforts to address common challenges faced by the five Central Asian states and the United States. It complements bilateral relationships in the region, particularly in issue areas where regional approaches may provide a comparative advantage.
