As part of his state visit to Georgia, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili today, July 2 at the Orbeliani Palace in Tbilisi.

The two leaders discussed ways to further expand the multifaceted relationship between Uzbekistan and Georgia.

The head of state thanked the Georgian president for his warm hospitality, noting in particular that this marks the first state visit to Georgia in 23 years.

Both sides welcomed the growing momentum in ties between parliaments, governments, and business communities.

By the end of last year, trade turnover had reached $270 million, with the number of joint projects and enterprises continuing to grow. TBC, Georgia's leading digital bank, is operating successfully in the country. Direct flights are now running between Tashkent and the Georgian cities of Tbilisi and Batumi. In March of this year, Days of Georgian Culture were successfully held in the Uzbek capital.

Priority attention was given to further boosting mutual trade, including through more effective use of the potential of the ports of Poti and Batumi.

The sides pointed to opportunities for expanding cooperation in pharmaceuticals, the chemical industry, agriculture, transport, energy, digital technology, and tourism.

They also stressed the importance of strengthening ties between regions in order to build up business, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

At the end of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Mikheil Kavelashvili to pay a visit to Uzbekistan.
