The civil society activist Gaybullo Jalilov, who was sentenced in 2009 on security related charges and for membership in an unregistered religious organization, and who always maintained his innocence, has been released.

In 2013, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Arrest and Detention called for Jalilov’s release.

Earlier human rights activist from Andijan Israil Kholdorov, who was sentenced in 2007 and journalist Yusuf Ruzimuradov, who was sentenced in 1999, were released.
