Uzbekistan has stepped up watering efforts for trees, shrubs, and city streets in response to the ongoing extreme heatwave, the press service of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change said.
The operations are being carried out in coordination with provincial authorities. Green spaces are being irrigated during the morning and evening hours when evaporation rates are lower, and overnight watering has been introduced in several districts.
In the Bukhara province, workers are focusing on watering central avenues and green zones, while also running public fountains. In the Konimex district, streets are being sprayed down to lower ambient temperatures and suppress airborne dust.
Ecology departments in the Qashqadaryo province have shifted entirely to a nighttime watering schedule for trees and bushes. Meanwhile, in Khanabad and Andijan, specialized machinery is being deployed to cool asphalt surfaces and improve local air quality.
In the Surxondaryo province, watering is being managed according to strictly approved timetables. In Termez, streets are being sprayed during the absolute peak heat of the day, while surrounding districts are installing modern irrigation networks for lawns and ornamental flowers.
The committee concluded by urging residents to help by watering trees and green spaces near their own homes, assisting local flora in surviving the severe heatwave.
