In the Kasan district of Kashkadarya province, authorities are investigating the death of 36-year-old Nargiza Rustamova, who was found hanged in a barn on July 1.

According to a preliminary forensic medical examination, the cause of death was mechanical asphyxiation from hanging. The examination also revealed bruising on her face, buttock, thigh, and shin, as well as an abrasion on her knee.

The victim's sister stated that the woman's husband, Nodir Umarov, had repeatedly beaten her and subjected her to physical and psychological abuse. A neighbor told investigators that on the evening of June 30, she witnessed an altercation in which the man struck his wife in the face, prompting her to step in.

The Kasan district prosecutor's office has questioned ten people, ordered forensic examinations, and opened an internal inquiry into the conduct of the neighbourhood chairman, the women's affairs activist, and the community inspector.

On July 4, a criminal case was opened against Nodir Umarov under Paragraph (a), Part 2, of Article 103 of the Criminal Code — Driving to suicide a person who was materially or otherwise dependent on the perpetrator. He was detained that same day.

The victim leaves behind three children. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement authorities say they will release further details once the necessary procedures are complete.
