On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s Constitution, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree to pardon 2,700 prisoners, UzA said.
In statement it said this was the first time in the Uzbekistan’s history that a pardon decree has been signed, with 956 people to be released from prison and the remaining will see their sentences cut.
On September 29, the President signed a decree to undertake preparations to pardon prisoners on the 25th anniversary of the Constitution
The decree formed a special commission, headed by the general prosecutor, as well as working groups for studying the materials and identity of convicted persons serving sentences in penitentiary institutions.
