Chief of the Emergency Situations Department (ESD) of Tashkent province has been caught soliciting a bribe from an entrepreneur, the State Security Service said.

The official claimed to have leveraged his ministerial connections to secure a 5.04 billion soum contract for a private company. The contract involved reinforcing the banks of three small rivers running through the district and constructing concrete slab overpasses.

The ESD chief was apprehended by authorities while receiving another $25,000 of the remaining balance inside his Tracker service vehicle. A criminal case has been initiated, and the official is currently in custody.
