A woman has been detained at Tashkent International Airport on suspicion of attempting to traffic a fellow citizen to Turkey for sexual exploitation, according to a statement from the State Security Service (DXX) of Uzbekistan.
According to DXX investigators, the 44-year-old resident of Yangiyul, Tashkent province, planned to fly abroad with a 26-year-old woman from the neighboring Chinaz District. The suspect had reportedly purchased the victim’s airfare under the condition that she surrender half of all her future earnings. Both women were intercepted by authorities just before their departure.
A criminal case has been opened against the Yangiyul resident under Article 135 (Human Trafficking) of the Criminal Code, and an investigation is currently underway.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs previously reported that in 2025, 92 out of 177 recorded human trafficking cases involved sexual exploitation. During that same period, law enforcement officials successfully prevented 72 women from leaving the country who were identified as potential victims of such crimes.
