The Japanese government is preparing for the inaugural Central Asia-Japan Summit in Tokyo in mid-December. The Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi hopes the summit will provide an opportunity to deepen ties with resource-rich countries, strengthen economic security, and promote cooperation in a wide range of areas, such as decarbonization technologies and infrastructure construction.

The Central Asia-Japan Summit had been scheduled in Kazakhstan in August 2024. However, due to the threat of a powerful earthquake in Japan on the eve of the event, then-Prime Minister Fumio Kishida canceled his visit.

Sanae Takaichi, leader of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, was elected prime minister in October. She became the first woman in Japan's history to hold this post.
