The automated E-Gate passport control system has been launched in the arrivals hall of Tashkent International Airport, Uzbekistan Airports said today.
The new area is equipped with eight electronic lanes dedicated for Uzbek passport holders only.
The system reads a traveler's biometric passport, captures their facial features and compares them to the information stored on the passport's chip, and opens the gate if the identity is confirmed. Reportedly, the entire process takes approximately 15-20 seconds.
The E-Gate system was first launched at Tashkent Airport in 2023 at the departures hall of the international terminal. With the launch of the new area, the total number of automated lanes has been brought to 20.
This technology increases efficiency and security by automating the border control process, the company stated.
Samarkand Airport was the first airport in Uzbekistan to implement the E-Gate system, which launched in March 2022.
At the end of October, a renovated arrivals hall opened at Tashkent Airport's international terminal. Following the renovation, its area increased by 2,200 square meters, an outdoor terrace was added, and the VIP lounge was expanded. The arrivals area now includes approximately 200 waiting seats.
