Today on the sidelines of the second World Summit for Social Development President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha, the presidential press service said.
The Summit, held under the auspices of the UN, aims to intensify efforts to eradicate poverty, ensure decent working conditions, and expand social inclusion in the face of modern challenges.
The parties discussed the ways to deepen the Uzbek-Qatari strategic partnership ties and increasing multifaceted cooperation.
Reportedly, the two-way trade has increased by 45% year-to-date – from $5.5 million to $8 million, with major projects now being implemented with Qatari companies.
The two leaders stressed the importance of promoting green, transport, geology, textiles, tourism, infrastructure development and other projects.
It should be noted that the countries have signed a Strategic Partnership agreement in April 2024 in Tashkent.
In June and December 2023, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Uzbekistan, and in October of the same year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid a return state visit to Doha.
A significant step in strengthening diplomatic ties was the opening of the Qatari Embassy in Tashkent in May 2023 and the Uzbek embassy in Doha in December of the same year.
In November 2024, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation took place in Doha. In June of the same year, Qatar Airways launched a Doha to Tashkent flight.
