The initial "zero" point for Uzbekistan's national coordinate system was established at the Cho'pon-ota hill in Samarkand's Rasadxona neighborhood.

This point is considered a fundamental support for all maps, geodetic, and cadastral works performed in the country.

Experts plan to register this point in the international coordinate system to harmonize it with global standards.

The creation of a national point signifies Uzbekistan's abandonment of the Russian coordinate system in the Leningrad Region; to date, Uzbekistan's databases have been based on the Pulkovo Meridian.
