The mayor of Naryn district of Namangan province, Jurabek Nurmatov, moved into a container installed in Shurarik neighborhood for its transformation into an examplary neighborhood following criticism from the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the provincial administration's press service, the mayor moved into the container house to "accelerate reforms, promptly address problems on the spot, and transform the neighborhood into a well-maintained area."

The work is being coordinated by the provincial headquarters under the leadership of the Namangan province governor, Shavkatjon Abdurazzakov. Plans for transforming the neighborhood's appearance were presented at a meeting with residents and elders, including the creation of an industrial zone on the site of vacant buildings and infrastructure development.

A master plan for swift development of New Namangan neighborhood and six adjacent neighborhoods is also planned.

On September 16, the president visited the Shurarik neighborhood, where he criticized the state of the infrastructure. He gave directives to the district mayor to move to the old neighborhood building, where he would "sleep." At a meeting with residents, the president announced that the neighborhood would be renamed New Namangan.

"Very large sums"- 10 billion soums, or $800 thousand, will be contributed for the improvement of the neighborhood. According to the presidential press service, a resolution is being prepared aimed at intensifying grassroots work across the country. A total of 5 trillion soums will be allocated from the state budget to rejuvenate the districts and neighborhoods.

Specifically, the Kasansay and Naryn districts of Namangan province will receive 100 billion soums each, and two problematic neighborhoods in each of the remaining districts will receive 5 billion soums each. These measures are aimed at transforming them into sustainable development areas, the statement noted.

In 2021, mayors and governors were also temporarily relocated to containers in problematic neighborhoods. At the time, President Mirziyoyev called the situation in the Shodiyona (Fergana) and Bunyodkor (Namangan) neighborhoods a "betrayal of the president's policies." He suggested that provincial governors and prosecutors move to live in the neighborhoods to understand the problems at the grassroots level. This was the case, for example, with Shavkatjon Abdurazzakov, governor of the Namangan province, Botir Zaripov, governor of the Bukhara province, and others.
