Seven people died on the spot, five people sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken in hospital in a major accident in Angren in Tashkent province, which was reported earlier, the press service of the Interior Ministry reported at 19:08 on Sunday.
The accident on the A-373 Tashkent-Osh highway occurred at about 12:20. The Tashkent province police department reported this at 14:56. However, the report did not mention the number of cars that collided, nor the number of injured and dead.
Due to the accident, the road was closed for several hours, eyewitnesses reported. The Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified that eight cars were involved in the accident. A 2020 Shacman cement truck driven by a man, 44, with 15 years of driving experience collided with two parked trucks, including a fuel tanker, and five cars at a railroad crossing as a result of losing control.
A fire broke out during the collision, which was extinguished by rescuers who arrived.
The report did not elaborate on the severity of the victims' injuries. It is known to date that four more injured people were sent home from medical facility after receiving treatment.
A government commission has been formed to study the details of the incident, provide assistance to the families of the deceased and injured, and provide a legal assessment of the incident with serious consequences. It is headed by Deputy PM Achilbay Ramatov.
