Swiss Grow and the Uzcharmsanoat Association discussed the launch of a joint environmental project in the leather industry, the press service of Uzcharmsanoat said.
The $2 million project involves recycling waste from leather goods into mineral fertilizers. In the phase I, it is planned to recycle up to 60% of leather waste.
Reportedly, for many years, such waste at tanneries was disposed of or destroyed, although its real value and potential remained unknown to most.
According to Uzcharmsanoat, Swiss Grow technologies will simultaneously reduce industrial pollution and provide the country's agricultural sector with local environmentally friendly fertilizers. Similar solutions have already been successfully implemented in a number of developed countries, including European countries and South Korea.
Uzbekistan vowed not only to import them, but also to integrate them into the local production chain. This will become a new stage of synergy between the industrial and agricultural sectors and a practical expression of the "green" economy, the Association stressed.
The parties discussed the procedure for implementing the project, the legislative framework and the allocation of the necessary land plots.
