The Yakkasaray District Criminal Court kent found four people guilty in the criminal case on the death of the Russian journalist Inessa Papernaya and her companion Maxim Radchenko in a Tashkent hotel.
Inessa Papernaya and Maxim Radchenko died in the Karaman Palace Hotel on October 22, 2024. The body of a тфешщтфд of Uzbekistan was also found in another room.
An examination found a compound of hemoglobin and carbon monoxide in the journalist's blood. The investigation was completed at the end of April, and the case was sent to court.
According to the indictment, Papernaya and Radchenko died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty, old heating boiler that had not passed a technical check, did not have certificates for operation, and was subject to decommissioning back in 2021.
At the beginning of the trial, three of the four defendants in the case - a plumber and heating equipment sellers - did not plead guilty, while the hotel owner partially admitted his guilt.
The court found the hotel owner Azamat Khuzhakulov guilty under Performing work or providing services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in human casualties charge and was sentenced him to eight years in prison.
Plumber Nodirbek Kurbanov, heating equipment sellers Zayniddin Dzhamoldinov and Abdurasul Yusupov were found guilty of the same crime and sentenced to three years in prison each.
The prosecution requested 7 to 8 years in prison for the defendants.
The court also ruled that 60.68 million soums (about 380 thousand rubles) shall be collected from the convicted persons in favor of Radchenko's relatives, and 67.58 million soums (about 420 thousand rubles) shall be collected from Papernaya's relatives for the costs of conducting an examination and transporting the bodies of the deceased to their homeland.
