The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement calling on Thailand and Cambodia to peacefully resolve the border conflict. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan is closely monitoring the military hostilities on the border between Thailand and Cambodia. We call on all parties to peacefully resolve the conflict and comply with international law," the statement said.
The ministry stressed that, according to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Bangkok, there are no casualties among Uzbek citizens living in Thailand and Cambodia. "The situation in the capital of Thailand and tourist areas are stable, there are no threats to foreign tourists," the statement added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also strongly recommended that fellow countrymen refrain from traveling to areas bordering Cambodia and monitor official reports.
Civil warfare between Thailand and Cambodia on a disputed section of the border began on Thursday night and is continuing for the second day. According to Thai authorities, at least 16 Thai nationals died as a result, and more than 100 thousand have been evacuated. Cambodian authorities have not yet reported any casualties. Both sides have accused each other of starting the aggression.
