President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Measures to implement the National Strategy to Combat Childhood Cancer for 2025-2030 Decree Thursday.

The development of the Strategy was supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Medical University of Vienna and other international organizations.

The main goals of the Strategy are:

  • increasing the share of early diagnosis of cancer among children to 65%;
  • increasing the one-year survival rate of children with oncological and oncohematological diseases from 34% to 90%, five-year survival - at least to 60%;
  • achieving 100% coverage of children suffering from cancer with special medical care.

Key elements of the strategy: implementing modern early diagnosis and treatment programs, improvement of the infrastructure of medical institutions, training of qualified personnel, digitalization of medical services, implementing comprehensive monitoring systems, as well as psychosocial and family support.

The project to implement the strategy will be launched at medical institutions in Samarkand and the Ishtykhan district of the Samarkand province. Once the necessary conditions are met, its coverage will expand to other provinces of the country.

To develop the academic, scientific and personnel potential of the pediatric oncology, hematology and immunology service, as well as to exchange experience in the field of pediatric oncohematology between the states of the province, an International Academic Hub for Childhood Cancer will be created at the Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology. It will function as a state institution with the assistance of clinics of leading European universities.

The Hub will become a scientific and educational center, which will be assigned the following tasks:

  • implementing international educational programs that meet the standards of international certification and accumulation of points in the system of continuous medical education;
  • training of qualified medical and scientific personnel for the service of pediatric oncology, hematology and immunology;
  • use of advanced clinical, applied research and implementing modern methods of early detection, diagnosis and treatment of oncological and oncohematological diseases in children;
  • strengthening the scientific potential of medical institutions in the field of pediatric oncology, as well as development of international cooperation and integration with academic and research networks;
  • conducting clinical trials of promising drugs and treatment methods together with leading foreign pharmaceutical companies and medical centers;
  • analysis and forecasting of epidemiological trends in childhood cancer for strategic planning and prevention.

A digital patient route will be adopted before July 1, including the processes of registration, diagnosis, treatment, dispensary observation and routing of children with oncological and oncohematological diseases. Remote appointment booking and online consultations will become available.

AI will be introduced as part of the strategy implementation before 2026.
