President signed a decree appointing Erkinjon Turdimov as the acting governor of Syrdarya province, the president’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.
Erkinjon Turdimov, 55, was in charge of the Samarkand province from July 2018 until the end of November 2024. The media report circulated that he was leaving the job due to health reasons. However, the press service of the president said that he was relieved of his post "in connection with the transfer to another job."
Earlier, since December 2016, he headed the Surkhandarya province, and in 2008-2016 he was the governor of Navoi province. From 1991 to 1995, he worked in the provincial offices of UzSanoatQurilishBank, then until 1996 he was Zarafshan city deputy mayor.
Having worked from 1996 to 2000 in the Navoi branch of the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity, he became the mayor of the Khatirchi district of the Navoi province. Before being appointed mayor of the Navoi province in 2008, he held the post of first deputy minister of agriculture and water resources.
The previous governor of the Syrdarya province, Akmalzhon Makhmudaliev, was sacked from his post last week due to serious shortcomings in attracting investment and developing agriculture in the province. Another 16 mayors were reprimanded.
