Corpses of 483 Uzbek labour migrants were returned to Uzbekistan from other countries in 2024, senior officials of the Migration Agency told at a press conference Friday.
The head of the agency's department, Nigora Isroilova, reported that the delivering costs were covered by the state budget. Depending on the country, the pricesw range from less than $1,000 (from Russia) to 4,000-5,000 (UK) and 9,000 (Republic of Korea, Japan).
She added that assistance in transportation is provided only if the deceased is a citizen of Uzbekistan and his relatives have applied to the agency for help.
Reportedly, most bodies were returned from Russia — 474, five bodies were brought from Turkey, the remaining four — from the Republic of Korea and Kazakhstan.
